When using netting mode in MetaTrader 5 (MT5) for futures trading, traders are limited to holding only one open position for a specific financial instrument at any given time. The volume of this position can be adjusted through subsequent operations on the same symbol.
For instance, if a trader buys 2 lots of MGC (Micro Gold) and then adds another 3 lots of the same asset, their position will show a total of 5 lots long in MGC. Conversely, should the trader decide to sell 6 lots of the same asset, they will have a short position of 1 MGC lot displayed in their MT5 trade window.
